There are currently 10 working showers in a five floor, 147 person building. On one floor, none of the six showers are working.
In what other residential building would this be acceptable?
The Portland Hotel Society came to Victoria with the mandate of housing and supporting low-income people. Over a year later, the building does not get basic service and repairs, much less improvement on “health services” (onsite nurse, overdose prevention site, food). Management continues to have a stronger interest in controlling us than allowing us to support each other, or even simply gather together. The common rooms on every floor are locked and there are no chairs for us to sit in the eating area or anywhere else in the building.
We want accountability and we want respect. Or at least working showers.
